A random page from an old journal (Volume 92)
“February is generally the “dark night of the soul” of all the months. The pain of winter causes this inward searching. I remember when I was 14 in Merrill Keep Hall, how depressed I was. The bright snow, the scraping off of winter boots, the warm, almost farty smell of the kitchen. Washing pots with Darlene King. So many things have happened in February. Over the years I have accepted (to some degree) that teeth-gritting time of darkness and sadness. What would it be like to be away from winter? Today there’s supposed to be a snowstorm.
What does winter feel like to you?
